The Panels: AIFF 2025
The CinéLab panels offer three collective discussion sessions bringing together filmmakers, producers, critics, and researchers. Through these encounters, the festival opens a space for dialogue on contemporary issues in cinema, including the circulation of works, cultural identity, artistic engagement, and political representation.
Panel 1: «DZ Cinema Abroad )The Algerian Diaspora)»
This panel explores the role of Algerian filmmakers living abroad and their contribution to the visibility of national cinema. Speakers will share their experiences navigating two cultures, the challenges of international production, and the ways in which the diaspora is reshaping the Algerian narrative within global cinema.
Panel 2: “Cinema as a Weapon of Resistance in Support of Just Causes”
This session examines the political and activist dimension of cinema. Speakers from Palestine, Western Sahara and other contexts of struggle will discuss the connections between artistic creation, collective memory and resistance. The conversation highlights how cinema becomes a tool for testimony, mobilization and the defense of rights and freedoms.
Panel 3: “A Cross Reading of Elaine Mokhtefi with Mila Turajlic and Ahmed Bedjaoui”
In this anticipated session, filmmaker Mila Turajlić will present excerpts from her upcoming film about the life and political engagement of Elaine Mokhtefi, a prominent activist for both the Algerian and Palestinian causes and the widow of freedom fighter Mokhtar Mokhtefi. Alongside Ahmed Bedjaoui, the panel offers a rich, multi- layered exploration of her remarkable legacy.
